FC Lions COVID Training, Shooting with Outside Foot

4/25/2020

This week we are going to continue working on shooting, this time with outside foot.

Conditioning:
  • 10-15 minutes jogging minimum
  • Conditioning Exercises (2 sets or more)
    • Pushups, 10-15 per set
    • Knee Hug sit-ups, 10-15 seconds per set
    • Burpees, 10 per set
    • Crunches, 10-15 seconds per set
    • Leg slides, 10-15 seconds per side per set. Stand with legs shoulder width apart, standing in a squat position, like you are sitting in a chair. Keep your left leg steady, and slide your right leg out to the side and then back to its original position. Do this for 10-15 seconds, then switch to keeping your right leg steady and sliding your left leg out to the side.

Tips for outside foot shooting:
  1. Before shooting, if you are right footed, your left foot should be a foot away from the ball so you can have room to shoot with the outside of your right foot
  2. Look where or at which angle you want your ball to go
  3. Attack the ball, and keep your eye on the ball while shooting

Happy Friday! Hope everyone had a safe and healthy week and that everyone got some good training in.

Coach William video message for players:

For the week of April 10th, let's focus on some fun and freestyle!
  • Conditioning exercises:
    • 10-15 minutes jogging minimum
    • Conditioning exercises - do 2-3 sets (feel free to do more)
      • Bicycle Crunches for 10-15 seconds
      • Pushups, 2 sets of 10
      • Knee Hugs - this is a kind of sit-up where you lay down and then sit up and hug your knees. You don't have to go all the way back to laying down. Straighten your legs out and then come back to hug your knees. Do this for 10-15 seconds at a time.
      • Shoulder taps - get in a plank position and alternate tapping one shoulder and then the other. Do this for 10-15 seconds at a time.
      • Torso rotations (also called "Russian Twists") for 10-15 seconds. Sit with knees bent with both hands together, rotating side to side and tapping the floor. You can hold a soccer ball while doing this.
  • Below are some inspirational freestyle videos. Please excuse the image quality for some. Go out and have fun with this!

FC Lions COVID Training, Passing

4/5/2020

For the week of April 5th, we will focusing on passing, and again, conditioning.
  • Conditioning exercises:
    • 10-15 minutes jogging minimum
    • Conditioning exercises - do 2-3 sets (feel free to do more)
      • Jumping jacks for 60 seconds
      • Torso rotations (also called "Russian Twists") for 60 seconds. Sit with knees bent with both hands together, rotating side to side and tapping the floor. You can hold a soccer ball while doing this.
      • Jog in place, knees up for 60 seconds
      • Supermans for 60 seconds (lay on your stomach, and then raise your arms and legs off the floor, tensing back and butt muscles, then relax and repeat)
      • Butt kicks for 60 seconds
      • Pushups, 2 sets of 10
  • Below are 3 drills and tips that I want players to focus on:
It is very important to keep your toes up. Passing is all about using you inside foot and outside foot, and sometimes even using your heels (professionals will do this a lot). It is also important to look at the ball before passing or kicking it because when you look up while passing, you miss your pass. Your eye needs to be on the ball while passing. The kids can use any equipment around them to practice passing such as walls, tables, anything that can bounce the ball back. Of course, siblings and parents can help.

This video implements the passing skills that I mentioned above
    • https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bs_Gxm9YhAM

In this video, I want the kids to see the multiple passing techniques (inside, outside and heels back pass from Guti, the Real Madrid player) not the finishing.
